Moving on

After three and a half years, today is my last day at Chalvington Group, working as an IT engineer. I began today not knowing what the immediate future held, but I have just heard that my application to study for a Masters Degree in Robotic Engineering at the University of Sussex has been accepted.

Working at Chalvington has taught me so much, consolidating all the IT skills I picked up through working in Schools. I learned new skills, new software and new ways of working in industry. I was able to drive a van and visit clients in all sorts of business; Care homes, Manufacturing, Legal Services, Plumbers, Builders, Car Sales, the whole caboodle.I have been sent on long term placement with one client, thoroughly enjoying myself in a role providing IT support over the phone and with site visits.

Seeing how manufacturers work has been most exciting. Being interested in gadgets and making things, I have always enjoyed the opportunity to see big robotic cutting machines, assembly lines, precision test equipment. This has inspired me to think about learning how to do this too. Chalvington Group has been brilliant and I leave knowing I have made a positive contribution.

So when it became time to move on, I decided to try out for a University place to study for a Masters degree in Robotic Engineering. Anyone who knows me knows about my passion for gadgets, which is largely self-taught. I've always wanted to study this sort of thing. It wasn't available to me before. But now I have a chance.

I don't know how well I'm going to do. I've been told I need some good maths skills, so I may fall at the first hurdle. Who knows. I'm going for it. Wish me luck!
